Different Types Of Meat Knives And Their Uses

You may come across various kinds of meat knives and there are mainly three different kinds: folding knife, fixed blade knife, and parabola knife. There are pros and cons for each knife type. 1. Fixed blades

Meat knives with fixed blades have sharp points that are capable of piercing and splitting tough game and skin. The cleaver in particular is a favorite among sportsmen. With a fixed cleaver, you are able to maintain control over your weapon even when the momentum of striking has stopped. If you are going to face tough situations such as fighting, then a fixed blade knife is a great option for you. These kinds of cleavers are made of carbon steel and have heavy-duty construction. The steel is heat-treated and then coated with a layer of oil to prevent rust formation.

2. Spring blade

This kind of knife is sharpened with a spring. In fact, you can find several kinds of spring knives. The most common is the kitchen knife which is generally made of wood. The spring attached to the handle will help in rotating the blade.

3. Flexible Blade

The flexible blade is quite similar to the cleaver but they have a double-edged tip. This tip helps the knife in the piercing and separating game. There are different types of tip knives used for filleting. The most common of them is the flat-tipped knife. The flat-tipped tip helps in giving the filleter a sharp edge, and long life for the filleting process.

4. Ceramic Blades

Just like any other metal, these blades can also be used for different purposes. You can get them in different shapes and sizes. These are good to be used by many chefs. 5. High Carbon Steel Blades

These are the knives that you would normally find in a survival kit. They are great for cutting through things. These are sharp and hence you won't have any problem maintaining their sharpness. You can get these at your local store. The best quality alloys are those made of carbon steel, which is a strong alloy that has very little amount of nickel.

6. Cast Iron

These are the best choice for most cooks. Since it is a hard metal it won't get damaged easily and you will have no problem maintaining their edges. There are different types of forged knives - Italian forged, Russian forged and German forged. There is also what we call a tang knife. The tang is the part that connects the blade to the handle.

7. Pointed Tip

These are perfect for the people who love to make sure that the foods they are cooking will be very well cooked. Most of the meat slicers have a pointed tip on the blade, where the food gets sliced off evenly. The perfect thing about these knives is that they are very good at slices and thin strips. Some of the best slicing knives would be the Japanese steak knives and Swiss army knives.
