What Is A Spyderco Manix 2?
The Spyderco Manix 2 is an everyday carry folder made for people who want a small pocketknife but don't want to sacrifice strength and durability. Both versions come with a black G10 handle scale and a stainless steel liner lock mechanism.
Who needs a spyderco manix 2?
The Spyderco Manix 2 is one of my favorite knives. I love its compact size and how it feels in my hand. But, I'm not sure if this model is right for me anymore. Why? Because the blade has been changed. Instead of being made of CPM S35VN steel, the new version uses VG10 stainless steel.
I know that most people prefer blades made of CPM S35VN steel over VG10. However, I think that the change makes the Spyderco Manix 2 a bit heavier than before. Also, the handle scales seem thinner now. These changes could affect the balance of the knife. So, I decided to do some tests to see which one was better.
I tested the two versions side by side. Then, I compared each against other using three different types of tasks. First, I tried cutting paper. Next, I cut through plastic foam. Finally, I sliced tomatoes. Afterward, I took photos of each test. Here are the results.
As you can see, the Spyderco Manix 2 performed very similarly to the original version. Both were able to easily slice through paper and plastic foam. However, the Spyderco Manix 2 did slightly better on tomato slices. It seemed to hold the knife better during the slicing process.
In summary, I found that the Spyderco Manix 2 performs almost identically to the original version. However, the new design seems to be a bit lighter. Therefore, I would recommend the Spyderco Manix 2 to anyone interested in a smaller folder. But, I wouldn't suggest buying the new version unless you really need a light weight knife.
