How To Choose The Best Gerber Combat Folder

A good knife is essential for every man who wants to stay safe and comfortable while doing his daily chores. We have chosen only those knives that are made by reputable manufacturers and come with great reviews from real users.

What Is A Gerber Combat Folder?

The Gerber Combat Folder is an excellent tool for those who like to carry around a small pocketknife but don't want to carry a larger knife. The Gerber Combat Folder has all the features of a standard Gerber Pocket Knife including a drop point blade made from 440 stainless steel, a titanium handle, and a black G10 scales. It also includes a lanyard hole, a sheath clip, and a belt loop. This model comes with a leather sheath and a nylon pouch.

This knife is perfect for anyone looking for a compact knife that will fit into a pocket without feeling bulky. If you're interested in this knife, click the link below to view our complete selection of Gerber knives!

Who needs a Gerber Combat Folder?

The Gerber Combat folder has been around since the early 1980s. It was designed to be a multi-purpose tool that could handle everything from cutting paper to opening cans. Nowadays, it's still one of the best folders on the market. But did you know that this classic design isn't just limited to knives?

There are several other uses for the Gerber Combat folder. Here are five reasons why you should add a Gerber Combat folder to your collection.

Paper cuts are painful. Even worse, they can lead to infections. Luckily, the Gerber Combat folder makes it easy to cut through paper. Simply open the blade, place the paper inside, close the blade, then press down firmly. Done!

Cans aren't exactly easy to open. Some require a special opener. Others require a can opener. Still others require a hammer. The Gerber Combat folder makes it easy to open any type of can. Simply remove the tab, pull back the blade, and push forward. Then twist the tab closed again.

Knives are expensive. Knives are dangerous. Knives are hard to sharpen. Fortunately, the Gerber Combat folder makes it easy to sharpen a variety of blades. Simply hold the blade against the steel, slide the blade along the edge until it starts to dull, then repeat the process until the blade is shiny again.

Folders are useful tools. Folders are handy. Folders are essential. Unfortunately, most folders are made only for paper. Thankfully, the Gerber Combat folder works perfectly for folding clothes. Simply fold the shirt, pants, or whatever else you'd like to fold. Then simply unfold the blade, insert the item, and fold it again. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

When disaster strikes, it's nice to have a multitasker on hand. The Gerber Combat folder does double duty as a survival kit. Simply take the blade off its sheath, flip it over, and use the flat side to create a makeshift fire starter. Then, once the flames start burning, you can use the tip of the blade to light a candle or strike a match. Of course, you can also use the blade to dig a hole in the ground or carve a shelter out of wood. Whatever you do, the Gerber Combat folder is sure to come in handy during times of emergency.

The Importance Of Purchasing A Quality Gerber Combat Folder

Gerber knives have become one of the most popular folders on the market. They offer many features, including blade geometry, ergonomics, and materials used. When looking for a Gerber folder, here are some things to keep in mind:

Look for blades that are forged from high carbon steel. Forged blades are stronger and sharper than stamped blades. You'll notice that they often come with a black oxide finish. This gives them a nice contrast against their stainless steel counterparts. Black oxide finishes are durable and easy to maintain.

Look for blades that feature a drop point style. Drop points are great because they provide a strong cutting edge and a sharp tip. Blades with a drop point design usually have a slight curve near the spine. These curves prevent the blade from being pushed up by the handle when opening the knife. A curved blade allows the user to open the knife easily.

Look for blades that are designed for left handed users. Left handers may find that the handles on traditional right-handed folders are uncomfortable. Gerber offers several models specifically designed for left-handed users.

Look for blades that are lightweight. Lightweight blades weigh less than 8 ounces. Lighter blades are easier to carry and use. They also tend to be lighter overall.

Look for blades that are corrosion resistant. Corrosion resistance prevents rust and makes the blade last longer.

Look for blades that are heat treated. Heat treating strengthens the metal and creates a harder surface. Harder surfaces are better able to withstand heavy wear and tear.

Look for blades that are manufactured in America. American manufacturing ensures that the product meets strict standards set forth by the United States Department of Commerce.

If you've found a Gerber folder that suits your needs, then congratulations! Now it's time to take care of business. Keep reading below for additional information about how to clean your Gerber folder properly.

Features To Consider When Buying A Gerber Combat Folder

Blade length. The blade length of a Gerber Combat Folder isn't necessarily important, but if you prefer longer blades, you may want to opt for a model with a slightly larger blade than the standard model.

Handle material. Some models feature a plastic handle while others feature a wood handle. Wood handles tend to hold their shape well over time, whereas plastic tends to wear down quickly.

Lock mechanism. Many models feature either a push button lock or a flipper style lock. Push button locks are easier to operate, but they often take more force to unlock. Flipper locks are harder to operate, but they usually stay locked even when dropped.

Stainless steel construction. Stainless steel knives are typically stronger than carbon steel knives. However, stainless steel doesn't rust, so it's less prone to corrosion. Carbon steel knives rust easily, so they must be stored carefully.

Weight. Most models weigh between 3 ounces and 4 ounces. Lighter weight folders are easier to carry and maneuver.

Length. Models range anywhere from 6 inches to 10 inches. Longer blades give you more reach, but shorter blades are easier to store.

Serrations. Serrations are tiny teeth along the edge of the blade. They cut through clothing and other materials, allowing you to slice through them effortlessly.

Tip shape. There are two basic types of tip shapes: drop point and spearpoint. Drop points are sharpened to form a flat point at the end of the blade. Spearpoints are pointed at both ends.

Edge type. There are three main types of edges: straight, curved, and serrated. Straight edges are most common, though curved edges are becoming increasingly popular. Serrated edges allow you to cut through tough fabrics such as leather and denim.

Blade finish. Blade finishes include matte, satin, and polished. Satin finished blades are smooth, giving them a glossy appearance. Polished blades are shiny, giving them a mirrorlike finish.

Different Types Of Gerber Combat Folder

The Gerber Combat Folder was created by Gerber Knives in the early 1980s. Since its creation, the company has continued to improve upon the design. Today, the company offers three main models; the original model, the GK-1, and the GK-2. All three models feature a drop point blade style and a black titanium handle. Each model features a slightly different look and feel. Let’s take a closer look at each of the models below.

Original Model. The original model is the oldest of the three models offered by Gerber. It features a full tang construction and a traditional clip point blade. The handle is constructed from aluminum and the scales are made from stainless steel. The overall length of the Original model is 7 inches and it weighs 3 ounces.

GK-1. The GK-1 is the second generation version of the Original model. It features a modified clip point blade and a hollow ground edge. The handle is constructed from aircraft grade aluminum and the scales are made from stainless steel. The overall length of the GK-1 is 6 1/4 inches and it weighs 2 ounces.

GK-2. The GK-2 is the newest model offered by Gerber. It features a modified clip point blade and a hollow grind edge. The overall length of the GK-2 is 5 1/8 inches and it weighs 2 ounces.
