How To Choose The Best Cold Steel Drop Forged Bowie

Cold Steel has been making knives since 1884, but they didn't start producing their own line until 2003. Since then, they have become known as one of the top makers of custom made blades. They offer everything from hunting knives to kitchen cutlery, and even swords. Their products are well respected by knife enthusiasts around the globe, and now they are branching into other areas such as tools and accessories. This article will help you decide whether or not you would benefit from purchasing a Cold Steel Bowie Knife.

What Is A Cold Steel Drop Forged Bowie?

The Cold Steel Drop Forged Bowie is an excellent choice for someone who wants a traditional looking knife but doesn't want to spend a lot of money. The Drop Forged Bowie features a drop point blade made from high carbon stainless steel. It has been sharpened to a razor edge and comes complete with a leather sheath. This knife will fit comfortably into most pants pockets and is perfect for everyday carry.

Who needs a Cold Steel Drop Forged Bowie?

The Cold Steel Drop Forged Bowie is one of my favorite knives. I love its sleek design, comfortable handle, and how it feels in my hand. But, I was surprised to learn that this knife isn't actually made by Cold Steel. Instead, it's manufactured by another company called SOG.

I'm sure most of you know that Cold Steel makes quality products. However, I didn't realize that they were also involved in manufacturing other companies' products. Apparently, they do this to ensure that their name remains associated with only top-quality products.

This particular knife has been around since 2007. It's designed to mimic the look and feel of a traditional Bowie knife. It features a black blade with a satin finish. It also comes with a leather sheath and belt loop.

However, unlike a true Bowie, this knife doesn't fold. It's meant to be carried in a pocket or clipped to a belt. It's perfect for hunting, camping, fishing, and any outdoor activity where you'd use a regular folding knife.

It's worth noting that this knife does have a bit of heft to it. It weighs 4 ounces. I think this is due to the extra material that's put into the handles. Still, it's light enough to carry comfortably.

As far as functionality goes, this knife works very well. It cuts through anything you throw at it. It's also pretty durable. I've dropped mine several times and it still functions perfectly fine.

That said, I would recommend getting a new sheath for this knife. Mine came with two holes in the bottom of the sheath. Since the knife itself isn't hollowed out, it's hard to insert things into the sheath.

Also, the sheath tends to slide off easily. Even though the knife is relatively heavy, it slides right out of the sheath.

Overall, I really like this knife. It looks cool, performs well, and is reasonably priced.

What do you think of this knife? Have you ever bought a product from a manufacturer other than Cold Steel? Let me know in the comments section below!

The Importance Of Purchasing A Quality Cold Steel Drop Forged Bowie

Cold Steel makes some of the best knives in the world. Their products are known for their superior craftsmanship, durability, and performance. They have even won awards for their designs. So how do they do it? Well, it starts with the materials used to create their blades. When creating their blades, they use only the finest metals available. These metals include Damascus steel, stainless steel, titanium, and carbon steel. Each metal offers different advantages and disadvantages. Let's take a closer look at them:

Damascus steel is one of the oldest types of steel ever discovered. It's said to date back thousands of years. This type of steel is very strong and durable. Unfortunately, it's also extremely brittle. Because of this, it's difficult to work with and often breaks easily. Although Damascus steel is beautiful, it's not recommended for beginners because it's so fragile.

Stainless steel is another popular material used by knife makers. Stainless steel is incredibly versatile. You can find many uses for it including kitchen utensils, tools, and weapons. It's easy to sharpen and maintain. However, it's not as strong as other steels such as carbon steel and titanium.

Titanium is a relatively new addition to the list of metals commonly used in making knives. Titanium is lightweight and corrosion resistant. It's also very strong and durable. However, it doesn't hold up well against sharpening. It tends to chip off if you try to sharpen it. And although it's light, it's not nearly as strong as other metals like carbon steel and stainless steel.

Carbon steel is the most common metal used in making knives. Carbon steel is fairly cheap and readily available. It's also fairly easy to sharpen and maintain. However, it's not as strong as other metals, especially titanium. It's also prone to rust and pitting. Despite these drawbacks, carbon steel remains the most popular metal used in making knives.

Features To Consider When Buying A Cold Steel Drop Forged Bowie

Quality materials. When you're shopping for a quality Cold Steel knife, you'll want to make sure it's made of top-notch materials. Look for knives that are made of stainless steel, titanium, or carbon steel. These materials are strong and durable, so they'll hold up over time.

Sharpening options. When you're buying a Cold Steel knife, you'll want to make sure it has sharpening options. Look for blades that feature hollow grinds, full flat grinds, or both. Hollow grinds allow you to sharpen the blade more easily, while full flats give you a longer lasting edge.

Blade shape. The shape of the blade matters. Blades that are straight and thin tend to be easier to handle and maintain than those that are curved or thick. Choose a blade that feels comfortable in your hand and fits well in your pocket.

Comfort. While you may prefer a thinner blade, you'll still want a knife that's comfortable to carry. Look for handles that fit comfortably in your hands and grips that are soft enough to prevent fatigue.

Size. Size matters. When you're buying a Cold Steel knife, you'll want to make sure it's sized properly for your needs. Look for knives that are large enough to perform tasks like cutting through bone or skinning game, but small enough to fit into your pocket.

Weight. Weight matters. Heavy knives are harder to control and maneuver, so you'll want to make sure you're carrying something light and manageable. Look for knives that weigh less than 3 ounces.

Durability. Durable knives stay sharper longer. HT knives are given a hardening process that makes them stronger and more resistant to corrosion. BOC knives are given a coating that protects against rusting.

Handle material. When you're buying a Cold Steel knife, you'll want to make sure it's made of wood, plastic, or leather.

Different Types Of Cold Steel Drop Forged Bowie

Cold Steel Drop Forged Bowies are a staple in any knife enthusiast’s collection. They are versatile knives that can handle everything from skinning deer to cutting through bone. They are also incredibly sharp and durable. Unfortunately, they are also quite expensive. Luckily, there are plenty of lower cost alternatives that offer similar functionality.

The first thing you should know about Cold Steel Drop Forged Bowies is that they are forged blades. This means that they are created by hammering metal down into shape rather than stamping it out of sheet metal. This process creates a blade that is stronger than stamped blades. It also makes forging a lot less complicated. A typical Cold Steel Drop Forge Blade takes between 8 and 12 hours to complete. This allows the company to create a quality product without having to spend a ton of money on machinery.

There are two main types of Cold Steel Drop Forged Bowies. One is the standard model and the other is the “Drop Forge” version. Both models feature a full tang design. Tang refers to the part of the blade that extends past the guard. This helps prevent the blade from bending under pressure. The Drop Forge model features a slightly thinner profile than the standard model. This is due to the fact that the Drop Forge model does not include the traditional bolster. Bolsters are small pieces of metal that run along the spine of the blade. They add strength and stability to the blade.

Both models feature a black oxide finish. Black oxide finishes are known for providing excellent corrosion resistance. These are also scratch resistant. This is important since the majority of Cold Steel Drop Forged Bowies are carried in public places. Scratches can quickly turn into rust spots.

Another difference between the two models is the size of the handles. The Drop Forge model features a larger handle than the standard model. This is done to give the user better control over the blade. The Drop Forge model also includes a lanyard hole. Lanyards are useful for attaching keys, wallets, etc. to the sheath. These are especially helpful if you plan on carrying your knife outside of your home.
