How To Choose The Best Benchmade Greg Thompson

Benchmade knives have been around since the early 1900s, but they didn't become famous until the 1980s. Since then, their popularity has grown exponentially, and today, they are considered by many as the best knife brand available. If you're interested in getting into the knife business, or just want to get yourself a great knife, read our review of the best Benchmade Greg Thompson.

What Is A Benchmade Greg Thompson?

Greg Thompson was born in San Francisco, California in 1961. He started working at his father’s knife shop when he was just 13 years old. At age 15, he began making knives for himself and selling them to friends and family members. In 1980, he opened up his own business, The Knifemakers Co., where he made custom knives and sold them under his name. His first big break came in 1985 when he won an award for best new product at the International Blade Show. This led him to meet Ken Onion who would become his mentor and friend. After meeting Ken, Thompson decided to make more than just kitchen knives. He wanted to create a line of high quality pocketknives that were affordable and accessible to everyone. That’s how the Benchmade brand was born.

Where Did The Name Come From?

The name “Benchmade” comes from the company’s original location, a small workshop located in a building called “the bench.” It was there that Thompson worked alongside his father and uncle, learning everything about knifemaking. They had no money but lots of ambition.

Who Needs A Benchmade Greg Thompson?

Greg Thompson has been designing knives since he was 15 years old. He started working with Benchmade back in 1997. Since then, he has designed over 100 custom knives. But his most famous knife is the Rescue Tool. It's a folding knife that comes with a built-in saw blade and a bottle opener. It's perfect for camping trips, hunting expeditions, and other outdoor adventures.

The Rescue Tool is one of the best selling products ever created by Benchmade. It's so popular that it's now sold worldwide. And it's still going strong after 20 years. Why do customers love this product so much? Because it does exactly what it says on the tin. It's a multi-purpose tool that works perfectly for everything from opening bottles to cutting rope to carving wood. It's also very affordable.

But the Rescue Tool isn't only useful outdoors. It's also handy around the house. It makes a great utility knife. It's ideal for opening cans, slicing bread, peeling potatoes, and chopping veggies. And it's also great for opening wine bottles. No wonder it's become such a favorite among chefs and bartenders.

It's also a great addition to any survival kit. When you're stranded somewhere remote, you'll appreciate being able to open food packages, cut ropes, and carve meat. Of course, the Rescue Tool is also great for everyday use. It's compact enough to fit inside your pocket or purse. And it's light enough to carry anywhere.

The Importance Of Purchasing A Quality Benchmade Greg Thompson

Benchmade knives have become synonymous with quality. They've built their reputation by making great tools that stand up to tough use. Their products are designed to perform under pressure and provide years of reliable service. Now they offer a line of pocket knives that are just as durable and dependable. These blades feature a unique design that allows them to open easily and smoothly. They also come equipped with a blade guard that protects against accidental cuts. This knife features a black G10 handle that provides a secure grip even after hours of heavy use. A lanyard hole makes it easy to attach to your belt loop or keychain. This knife is perfect for everyday carry because it's small enough to fit in your pocket yet large enough to do serious work. You'll love how smooth and quiet it opens and closes.

Features To Consider When Buying A Benchmade Greg Thompson

Blade length. The longer the blade, the more control you have over how far you can draw the knife. But if you prefer a shorter blade, you may find yourself struggling to hold onto the handle while drawing the knife.

Handle material. Some knives feature a solid metal handle, while others are made of plastic or wood. Metal handles are usually stronger than their counterparts, but they tend to weigh more. Plastic handles are lighter, but they often lack strength. Wood handles are typically the lightest option, but they can warp over time.

Weight. Knives with heavier blades are easier to carry, but they're harder to wield. Lighter blades are easier to maneuver, but they're less stable.

Comfort. Some knives are comfortable right away, while others take a little practice to become comfortable. Comfort matters most when you're using the knife for extended periods of time.

Durability. Durable knives are built to withstand heavy wear and tear. They're great options if you plan on carrying the knife frequently.

Edge geometry. Some knives feature serrations along the edge of the blade. These serrations allow you to cut through tough materials with ease. Others feature straight edges, which makes them ideal for cutting paper.

Lockback mechanism. Most knives feature a lockback mechanism, which allows you to easily change the angle of the blade. This lets you adjust the blade for various tasks.

Tip shape. Some knives feature flat tips, while others feature pointed tips. Flat tips are useful for piercing items such as cans and bottles, while pointed tips are better suited for slicing food.

Stainless steel. Stainless steel is corrosion resistant, which means it doesn't rust over time. However, stainless steel isn't always the safest choice. Many manufacturers coat stainless steel blades with nickel to prevent rusting.

Carbon steel. Carbon steel is another popular type of steel used in kitchen knives. While carbon steel is strong, it has a tendency to bend rather than break.

Different Types Of Benchmade Greg Thompson

Benchmade knives are known for making quality blades. Their designs are simple yet effective. They are affordable and offer excellent value for money. Today I am going to talk about three of my favorite Benchmade models. Each model offers something slightly different. Let’s start off with the classic design.

The Classic Series. The Classic series was introduced by Benchmade in 1998. It features a drop point blade style. The handle scales are smooth and rounded. The Classic series is a good entry level knife. It is inexpensive and offers decent performance. It does however feel cheap and flimsy. It is not recommended for heavy duty use.

The Rescue Tool. The Rescue Tool is a tactical folder. It features a 3.5 inch clip point blade. It is lightweight and compact. It is ideal for everyday carry. It is also great for camping trips and hiking. It is a versatile knife that works well in any situation.

The Socp Dagger. The Socp Dagger is a fixed blade. It features a modified drop point blade. It is a bit heavier than the Classic series. It feels sturdy and durable. It is also great for hunting and fishing. It is a little larger than the Classic series. It is a great knife for those who want a bigger blade.
