The Benchmade 483 Shori is one of my favorite knives. I love its classic design, comfortable handle, and how it feels in my hand. But, sometimes, I wish it had a bit more heft. When I'm using it for cutting meat, it tends to slip out of my hands. Then, I end up slicing myself.
I was recently contacted by Benchmade asking me to review their new 483 Shori. Their goal was to create a larger version of the 483 Shori. To do this, they made the blade thicker and longer. As a result, the overall length has increased to 5 inches. The handle is still contoured, but now it's wrapped around the entire blade. The grip is also wider, which makes it easier to hold.
When I tested the 483 Shori, I found that it performed very similarly to the original model. However, I did notice that it felt heavier in my hand. It didn't seem to slip out of my fingers as easily. Also, the extra weight seemed to make it harder to push down on the back side of the blade during use.
