The Best Misen Knives

Generated From 25K+ Reviews!

Buyer's Guide

Buying a Misen knife is wise. They're cheap and can do more than a knife. Before buying a knife, consider your needs. Here are some key features to look for in a blade:

Forged or Non-Forged Steel?

Knife steel varies widely between brands. Forged steel is more rigid and less flexible. Forging compresses and melts the molecules together, making them less prone to snapping. Non-forged knives are more versatile. Some non-forged blades are fantastic, but you must research the best brands.

Wooden or Plastic Handles?

Brands also differ substantially here. The main argument is that wood is more comfortable to hold and shows off the handle's craftsmanship. Plastic handles are less expensive but less ergonomic. Get a wooden handle if you can.

These knives are priced differently. Budget knives are generally weaker and more prone to breaking. But you can acquire an excellent knife for a reasonable price. The goal is to find the best bargain brand. There’s nothing more frustrating than picking up your favorite knife and then noticing that it isn’t cutting as well as usual. Suddenly you find yourself trying to hack through an onion or slice a tomato with this dull blade, giving up halfway through because you know it won’t turn out.

It happens so often that people will buy new knives every year or two to have some variety in their kitchens! But what if there was a way to make sure you always had the perfect tool for every job at hand? What if you could pick up any knife from your own kitchen and be confident that it would work like new again? Well, now you can thank the Misen knife!

The Misen Knife has been designed to be durable and cost-effective while still maintaining its quality. Misen blades are made with Japanese steel, which means they will stay sharp for longer than other knives on the market. This also makes it easier to sharpen when necessary.

Due to their thinner blades, these knives can easily lice delicate things like tomatoes, mushrooms, onions, and garlic cloves without crushing them.

Final Thoughts

Misen is a great pick for a long-lasting knife. Misen knives are not only of excellent quality and built to last a lifetime but are also competitively priced. They have some of the sharpest blades on the market and provide excellent customer service. To that end, do your homework before settling on a single brand!

What are Misen knives made of?

Stainless steel or semi-stainless alloy blades are available for Misen knives, depending on the model. The 300 Series Stainless Steel is the most common form of stainless steel used in kitchen cutlery because of its excellent edge retention, sharpening capabilities, and corrosion resistance. It is also the most affordable type of stainless steel.

In comparison to premium German cutlery, the VG10 Super Steel is a more expensive alloy, containing a small proportion of Vanadium carbides, which makes sharpening the blades easier. In terms of hardness, Misen knives have a Rockwell hardness of HRC 55, which is considered semi-stainless steel due to the high molybdenum component of the steel. Misen also employs a pakka wood handle, which is composed of layers of wood that have been soaked with resin and crushed under high heat and pressure.

The resulting material is lightweight, resistant to moisture, and long-lasting in nature. It is easier to maintain the knife because of this, but I believe it would have been better if they had chosen a more traditional wood like micarta.

Do misen knives come with a block?

We have chosen not to include a bulky and perhaps disgusting knife block with Misen's knife set since we do not believe it is required. If you want to keep your kitchen looking clean and modern without the hassles that come with a universal knife block, consider investing in a magnetic knife bar.

Do Misen knives need to be washed by hand or can I put them in the dishwasher?

Misen knives should only be washed by hand, according to the manufacturer. When it comes to cleaning a knife, dishwashers often use far too much water pressure and heat to do the job effectively. Not only is the heat generated by a dishwasher's drying cycle potentially harmful to knives, but using your hands or utensils to "unload" a dishwasher can also dull or damage knives.

Do misen knives have a full tang?

Some knives are fashioned from a single piece of metal, with the handle serving as both the tang and the grip. The weight of a knife with a full tang is higher in general. It also contributes to the creation of balance. In order to provide that extra level of comfort and control, Misen designed their Chef's Knife with a slanted bolster integrated into the stainless steel blade design.

How do you clean a Misen knife?

After you've finished using your knife, hand-wash it and dry it with a towel as soon as possible. Allowing it to sit with food on it for any length of time (particularly acidic foods such as lemons or tomatoes) and allowing it to air dry is not recommended. Even a stainless steel edge is subject to corrosion due to the thinness of the material.

How long is misen short chef knife?

A standard chef's knife blade measures 8 inches in length, but the blade of Misen's Short Chef's Knife measures 6.8 inches. Even though the length of this Misen chef's knife has been reduced, it retains its excellent balance and maneuverability.

Do Misen knives need to be sharpened? If so, how often?

As with all knives, they will become dull with use and will need to be sharpened at some point in the future. We've found that with proper maintenance (honing, hand washing/drying, and wood block storage), our kitchen knives may maintain their edge for up to 2-3 years when used regularly. You will need to sharpen your knives depending on how frequently you use them and what type of food you are generally cutting with them (hard vs soft, etc).

How does misen lifetime sharpening work?

Misen provides you with a complimentary sharpening service for the rest of your life. When your knife begins to dull, send it to the Misen factory, where it will be re-sharpened to be as good as new. You will be responsible for the shipping costs to and from the Misen factory in Shanghai, despite the fact that this service is free and included in the price of your knife.

Does misen offer a warranty?

All Misen items are sold "as is" with no guarantee or warranty. They do, however, have a 60-day return policy, which may not be sufficient in some cases.

Is alloy steel better than stainless steel?

A knife made of alloy steel will retain its edge for a longer period of time than a knife made of stainless steel. For their simplicity of care and rust resistance, stainless steels are frequently chosen since they require less maintenance to maintain their corrosion-free appearance and performance. Our alloy steel knives are designed for ease of maintenance, and they contain high concentrations of chromium, molybdenum, vanadium, and tungsten to make them less difficult to maintain while still providing exceptional edge retention and sharpness. For the time being, Misen is working on a knife that will be constructed entirely of stainless steel, which will have superior rust resistance to that of alloy steel.

How long will Misen knives last?

Misen knives are designed to be a long-lasting addition to your kitchen if they are used with respect. With the exception of the edge, which may require replacement every year or two depending on how frequently you sharpen it or if you cut at an extremely acute angle, the handle may require replacement after several years of use depending on how aggressively you use it. Misen knives are covered by a limited guarantee for one year from the date of purchase by the original user against defects in materials or workmanship when used in the normal course of business. Misen knives can be returned for a full refund within 30 days after purchase if they are unopened and in brand new condition.

What angle are Misen knives sharpened at?

Despite the fact that Misen advertises a santoku-like 15-degree blade angle, as opposed to the wider angle of most chef's knives, the Misen never felt like my scalpel-like santoku, just like my Wüsthof.

Where are Misen knives made?

Misen makes its knives in China, and the company is tight-lipped regarding the manufacturing process and quality standards in place. If you want to ensure that production requirements are met, forged knives from Germany, Japan, or the United States are a better choice. In terms of ergonomics, the handle design may be improved upon a bit.

Are misen steak knives good?

Misen Knives are produced from a single piece of high-quality steel, which is the best steel that can be found. Because of this, they are far more durable, and higher sharpening angles may be used to enhance cutting force, which is consistent with the Japanese concept on which Misen was founded.
